Sacred Heart would pull within one point after three free throws, but New Life Academy would end the first half on an 11-6 run to take a 36-30 lead into the halftime break. After a Sam Gapp layup tied the game at 17-17, the teams would trade a few buckets before a 4-0 mini scoring run gave New Life Academy a 25-21 lead with 5:55 left in the first half.
The lead didn’t last long, as New Life Academy would go on a 5-0 scoring run before a Cullen Rohrich layup made it 17-15 New Life Academy with 9:38 until halftime. New Life Academy would extend their lead to 12-8 shortly after, but Sacred Heart would go on a 5-0 scoring run to take their first lead at 13-12 after a free throw from Zach Martin.
The run was highlighted with scores from Kobe Tomkinson, Sam Gapp, Landen Denney, and another one from Tomkinson after a steal from Josiah Sundby. Out of the time out, Sacred Heart appeared to calm their nerves and would respond with an 8-2 run to cut the New Life Academy lead to 10-8 with 13:49 on the clock. They built an early 8-0 lead forcing a Sacred Heart timeout with 16:00 remaining in the opening half. New Life Academy fired on all cylinders, forced turnovers, and got easy baskets.
Unfortunately for Sacred Heart, it would not be their first-ever State Tournament win, as New Life Academy would do just enough and fend off a late Sacred Heart come back for a 64-58 win.
